Our Members

We are a Black-led, multi-racial intergenerational group of community members, neighbors, organizers, policy analysts, and lawyers committed to ending police abuse and mass incarceration.

 Why Join RTAP?

Join RTAP to build community love and power so that we can transform Richmond and achieve justice. We need all of us. We build our membership to build the skills, connection, and leadership of people impacted by police violence. We work together to build power through programs and campaigns that create transformational change. RTAP is part of the larger movement to eradicate racism by abolishing the conditions that perpetuate the prison industrial complex. Every day, more people are joining this movement to build a new world—united together in the struggle for dignity and justice for all people.

  • Cultivate an empathetic and open climate to foster relationships of integrity between all members by deeply listening to one another and collaborating to advance our mission through various strategies.

  • Respect all members. Hate speech is not tolerated. Hate speech is a direct attack on people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, serious disease or disability, and immigration status. An attack is violent or dehumanizing speech, statements of inferiority, or calls for exclusion or segregation.

  • Work through consensus. If members cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to determine the group’s position on an issue.

  • Be transparent, accountable, cooperative, and delegating duties throughout the membership.
